Hundreds of thousands of Jewish elderly in the former Soviet Union live on meager pensions that are not sufficient to cover their most basic needs. Many are disabled and homebound. Simple issues like food can become a crucial issue.
The FJC funds over 40 soup kitchens, literally saving lives. The kitchens, which are certified kosher, provide two hot meals each day, nearly every day of the year. In addition to staving off starvation, they provide the needy with the security that they will not be left hungry or neglected.
Unfortunately, the number of facilities is not nearly enough, and we must increase the number of soup kitchens to accommodate those who are still in need of our assistance. Thanks to the support of the International Fellowship of Christians and local donors, the FJC plans to open as many new kitchens as possible over the next few years.
