“There is a famous story in which the Kaiser asks Bismarck, ‘Can you prove the existence of God?’ Bismarck replies, ‘The Jews, your majesty. The Jews.’”

For growing numbers of Jews throughout the Former Soviet Union, the joy of rediscovering Judaism and the richness and wisdom of the Torah is a revelation; for many others, it is a long hoped-for reconnection.

The Federation of Jewish Communities is proud to be a leader in this national renaissance, helping local communities rebuild synagogues and Mikvas, refurbishing cemeteries and helping the needy. We also train rabbis and mohels, certify and distribute kosher food, organize major holiday celebrations, and publish Jewish texts in Russian – distributing them across vast territories that span 10 time zones.

Through a strategic partnership with Chabad Lubavitch and the Rohr Family Foundation, the FJC supports more than 200 permanent rabbis serving over 90 communities in 15 countries. Many serve in remote locations and inhospitable climates. All take joy in the revival of a nation. In addition to leading prayer services and performing weddings, bar and bat mitzvahs and funerals, these rabbis partner with local Jewish leaders in rebuilding the entire community infrastructure and leading the remarkable revival of Jewish life throughout the Former Soviet Union.
