30 Jewish children with special needs, together with their parents, enjoyed a week-long summer camp tailored to their needs. The special camp project, initiated by ‘World Without Borders’, took place at a beautiful island resort on the Don River.
The ‘World Without Borders’ initiative was established in 2019 by the Jewish community of Rostov, headed by Rabbi Chaim and Mrs. Kaila Danzinger, to serve the unique needs of special children.
Every Sunday, the children attend a special club geared to their special needs and interests. The club combines attractions and activities, with special therapy and has contributed greatly to the children’s advancement and achievements.
Towards summer 2021, the organization’s directors decided to take their activities a big step forward and establish the first-ever Jewish summer camp for children with special needs and their parents in Rostov, Russia.
The seven-day camp, including an inspiring Shabbaton, hosted 30 children together with their parents, on a beautiful and peaceful island located on the Don River near Rostov. The participants enjoyed splendid kosher cuisine, swimming, performances, sports, a loving and supporting staff, arts & crafts, workshops, robotics, computer, social games, and much more.
“Parents of children with special needs have an extremely hard time, way beyond regular parents,” says Rabbi Chaim Danzinger, Chief Rabbi of Rostov-on-Don. “They work around the clock without the slightest possibility of resting – every day, seven days a week. It is incredibly difficult for them to leave home with their child, let alone go on vacation together with them.”
“This camp is a rare opportunity for both the children and their parents to experience a real vacation and gather strength to continue on their life’s path.” Rabbi Danzinger concludes, “Our community is here for them and will do everything possible to bring joy and warmth into their hearts.”
