FJC’s Jewish community of Baku, Azerbaijan, headed by Rabbi Shneur Segal, recently hosted a visit by a distinguished delegation of the EAJC [Euro-Asian Jewish Congress]. The delegation was treated to a special reception with the president of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, in which they expressed their gratitude for Azerbaijan’s assistance in the revival of the Jewish community, the warm and loving approach the community receives from the government, as well as the tolerance and freedom of religion practiced in the country.
The delegation then visited the FJC’s ‘Or Avner’ Jewish school. There, they were greeted with joy by students and staff alike, and taken on a tour of the school which impressed them with its professional standards, as expressed by them when they greeted the pedagogical staff and the school director, Mr. Efim Lesnick. The delegation left impressed and touched by the warm welcome they received.
The EAJC is dedicated to protecting the rights of the Jewish people within the Euro-Asian region and works together with various organizations and associations, including the Federation of Jewish Communities of the CIS, to promote community satisfaction and to support the needs and interests of the Jewish people.
Among those present were the Chief Rabbi of Russia, Rabbi Berel Lazar, the Rabbi of the Ashkenazi community of Baku, Rabbi Shneur Segal, philanthropist and President of the EAJC, Mr. Mikhail Mirilashvili, Deputy Director of the EAJC, Mr. Timur Khinanashvili, Deputy Director of the EAJC Mr. Aaron Frenkel, Director of the World Jewish Congress, Mr. Robert Singer, Chairman of the Ashkenazi Jewish community of Baku, Mr. Zhenya Brinsin and Director of the EAJC, Mr. Haim Ben-Yaakov.
