Brit Milah

Religious services

“For you are a people holy to the LORD your G-d. The LORD your G-d has chosen you out of all the peoples on the face of the earth to be his people, his treasured possession.” (Deuteronomy 7:6)

Although the concept of the Brit Milah is seen as a commandment from the Almighty, physicians and scientists around the world recognize the many health benefits of circumcision. Modern medical research and scientific studies prove the many tangible benefits that once were no more than anecdotal advice.

Since the practice was once illegal, most Jewish men and boys in the Former Soviet Union are not circumcised. Now permissible, thousands are entering into the Covenant of Abraham by having a brit.

In partnership with the Brit Yosef Yitzhak organization the FJC supports two full-time certified mohels; one performs all circumcisions in the Ukraine and the other, based in Moscow, travels throughout other Federation countries.

Safer and more hygienically performed than in a hospital, besides lowering the chance of contracting STD’s, circumcision is more than merely the fulfillment of another divine edict; it is a symbol for the lengths we are prepared to go for the sake of our convictions.
