“Seeking to forget makes exile all the longer; the secret of redemption lies in remembrance.” (Richard von Weizsaecker)

In a region where, for hundreds of years, Jews were forced to register as a separate nationality, it is important to remind the general population that we may be different, but we remain an integral and equal part of mainstream society.

Thus, Jewish FJC community leaders take care to respect all secular celebrations, and Federation communities actively participate in national and regional commemorations, such as May Day and Veterans’ Day. Conversely, local dignitaries are invited to Jewish celebrations and events, which also often attract local media attention.
