Community Centers

“…they are, beyond any question, the most formidable and the most remarkable race which has appeared in the world.” (Winston Churchill)

In a land where Communist rulers strove to extinguish every shred of Jewish life, museums play a special role in saving our heritage from extinction. The FJC co-sponsors the creation of large permanent collections, traveling exhibitions and gallery shows.

InUzbekistan, the first Jewish museum in the 2,000-year history of the Bukharian Jewish community includes more than 100 exhibits. In the Ukraine, the Jews of Dnepropetrovsk with the support of the JDC are creating Eastern Europe’s first Holocaust museum. And, in Russia, a cradle of world Jewry for centuries, the first Jewish museum in Moscow includes interactive exhibits, photographic and cinematic archives and workshops, including a kosher kitchen where visitors can learn to prepare Jewish regional dishes.
