As Passover approaches, a major humanitarian effort is underway to ensure that Jewish families across Ukraine and the former Soviet Union can celebrate the Festival of Freedom with joy and dignity. Led by the Federation of Jewish Communities (FJC), together with its humanitarian arm in Ukraine, JRNU, the initiative includes the large-scale distribution of matzah, wine, and extended kosher-for-Passover food parcels to communities spanning hundreds of cities.
From central warehouses, shipments totaling tens of tons of supplies are being dispatched daily. These include both handmade Shmurah matzah and machine-produced matzah, alongside wine, grape juice, meat, poultry, oil, sugar, and other holiday essentials. Thousands of carefully packed boxes are being delivered to families, individuals, communal kitchens, and venues hosting public Seder nights. The operation, coordinated under challenging conditions, reflects a longstanding commitment to ensuring that every Jew across the FSU has access to the necessities of Passover observance.
As thousands of families across the region face significant economic hardship following a difficult winter and prolonged financial strain, this extensive logistical effort addresses a stark reality. For some, without assistance, even the most basic Passover items, such as matzah, wine, or simple food staples, remain out of reach. In such circumstances, their ability to celebrate the Seder in a meaningful way becomes uncertain, underscoring the importance of the global support network that makes these distributions possible.
The Passover campaign calls on supporters worldwide to take part in this effort, helping to ensure that no Jewish family is left without the means to observe the holiday. Contributions directly support the procurement and delivery of essential supplies, enabling thousands of Jewish families to gather around the Seder table, share in the traditions of the holiday, and experience a sense of connection and belonging.
