On Saturday night, January 24 (Motzei Shabbat, 6 Shevat), thousands of Jewish students and young professionals from across Russia and other former Soviet Union countries took part in a unique “Havdalah” event hosted by YAHAD in local community clubs across dozens of cities.

At the heart of the evening was Havdalah & the Museum of Cinema, an interactive program blending Jewish tradition with modern cinematic analysis. Participants began with a traditional Havdalah ceremony before embarking on a creative “quest” through the museum, searching for “sparks of holiness” and hidden Torah meanings in popular secular films—from The Matrix to Soul.

Using QR codes, film clips, and guided discussions, participants explored deep themes of purpose, choice, and the value of life through the lens of ten major films. The program culminated in a playful “Oscar Ceremony,” where groups awarded prizes to the movies that revealed the richest spiritual insights.

The evening also featured a popcorn bar, interactive film quizzes, metaphorical card activities, and themed movie décor, creating a vibrant and immersive environment.
