The women’s Jewish club Emunah, operating under the Moscow Jewish Community Center and established under the leadership of Russia’s Chief Rabbi Berel Lazar and Rebbetzin Chani Lazar, held an inspiring three-day Shabbaton weekend retreat for women from across Moscow. The event took place with the generous financial support of the 770 Foundation and brought together approximately 250 women for a meaningful and uplifting Shabbat experience.

The Shabbaton coincided with Rosh Chodesh Adar, the beginning of the Hebrew month of Adar, traditionally associated with increased joy in Jewish life. Reflecting this spirit, the central theme of the gathering was “Joy Is Your Way of Life.”

From the moment participants arrived, they were welcomed into a festive and creative atmosphere. Circus performers greeted the women, setting a joyful tone that carried through the entire weekend and reflected the event’s theme of happiness and inspiration.

Shabbat began with the traditional candle-lighting ceremony, as the participating women ushered in together the holy day. The program that followed was rich and varied, including prayers, festive Shabbat meals, lectures, Chassidic gatherings, classes, and heartfelt sessions designed to strengthen both spiritual growth and community connection.

Among the guest speakers were several respected educators and community figures, including Rebbetzin Chani Lazar, Rabbi Boruch and Chava Gorin, Rabbi Reuven and Aidy Kuravsky, Jerusalem-based educational psychologist Marina Fain, Rabbi and family counselor Aryeh Aminov, and Rabbi Avi Gejdzh. Through personal insights, teachings, and inspiring stories, the speakers highlighted the importance of joy in Jewish life and the unique strength and role of Jewish women.

One of the most moving moments of the weekend was the Havdalah ceremony, led by Rabbi Avi Gejdzh, accompanied by singing that deeply touched many participants.

Following Shabbat, the celebration continued with a festive Melaveh Malka banquet. The evening combined creativity and joy, as participants presented circus-themed performances they had prepared after learning from professional Moscow circus artists earlier in the event. The lively program concluded with a special musical performance by Russian stars, bringing the memorable gathering to a vibrant close.

The Emunah Club is directed by Rivka Sara Bloch, with administration by Leah Beinish, who together continue to develop programs that strengthen Jewish life and community among women in Moscow.
