The professional team behind SmartJ, FJC’s innovative informal education initiative, convened in Krakow, Poland, for an intensive six-day seminar. This international program, active across nine countries of the former Soviet Union, offers Jewish children unique opportunities for personal and cultural development through afternoon educational activities.

The seminar brought together key staff members – primarily from Ukraine – to review the implementation of the 2025 work plans, share insights, and shape strategic direction for 2026. The schedule included enriching lectures in Jewish heritage, informal education, and management, alongside planning sessions and team-building activities.

Held in a welcoming and comfortable setting, the gathering recognized the dedication of the educators who, despite ongoing challenges, continue to empower Jewish children across Ukraine and the region. Participants also enjoyed a Shabbaton weekend, tourist attractions and cultural experiences in Krakow.

Among the attendees were Rabbi Shlomo Neeman, Director of FJC’s Education Department; Chana Rynkov, Director of the ‘Or Avner’ School Network and ‘Darkeinu’ curriculum; Elena Izenshtein from the Israeli Ministry of Diaspora Affairs; Yana Klimova, Director of the SmartJ program; and Sasha Shlimak, CEO of SmartJ.

SmartJ, established with the partnership of the Israeli Ministry of Diaspora Affairs, is designed for preschool and school-aged children. Its curriculum fosters skills, confidence, and Jewish identity, making a lasting impact on the next generation.
