More than five thousand Jewish children suffering extreme poverty throughout Ukraine and Russia are being given coupons this winter to purchase new seasonally appropriate clothing. Many of these children come from single-parent families, have children with disabilities, refugees, or are from families dealing with other challenges such as addiction, abuse, and neglect.
“My children were too cold to go to school,” said a single mother of three who lives in a one-room hovel with her children. “They spent the days in bed, huddled together for warmth. When we received the coupon to purchase new clothing at Gloria Jeans, we were all overjoyed and grateful. Now my children walk out the door dressed warmly and fashionably, in clothing that fits them, and walk to school holding their heads high.”
This unique campaign has been going on for several years with children receiving clothing coupons twice a year, for winter and summer. “This year the campaign has been able to reach many more families than in the past, thanks to the generosity of our donors,” said Mr. Daniel Gordon, FJC’s Resource Development Coordinator. “This means that many more children who were suffering from the frigid weather of the FSU are now warm and comfortable.”
The 2019 clothing distribution campaign is a part of the activity of FJC’s ‘Taste of Life’ program generously supported by the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews and the Gloria Jeans foundation as well as thousands of supporters from across the globe.
