Over sixty Chabad emissaries and city rabbis from across Russia and other FSU countries convened last weekend in the Siberian city of Krasnoyarsk for a unique Shabbat of unity in anticipation of the upcoming Shavuot holiday. The uplifting event was hosted by the city’s Chief Rabbi, Rabbi Binyamin Wagner and his wife Dina, and included a series of meaningful gatherings and historic moments.

The long-weekend opened Thursday evening with a festive Chassidic gathering and celebration marking the bar mitzvah of Yechiel Wagner, son of Rabbi Binyamin and Dina Wagner. Hundreds of community members from the city and surrounding region participated, highlighting the deep bonds and shared mission of the rabbis to revitalize and sustain Jewish life throughout Russia.

Friday featured the official opening ceremony, with addresses from Chief Rabbi of Russia Berel Lazar; Rabbi Shimon Bergman, Chief Rabbi of Nizhny Novgorod; Rabbi Levi Yitzchak Wagner, head of Chabad Houses for Russian-speaking immigrants in Israel; and Rabbi Zalman Deitsch, Chief Rabbi of Perm, among others.

A solemn unveiling ceremony followed, honoring a new monument commemorating Jewish soldiers from Krasnoyarsk and the region who perished in World War II. Participants recited prayers including Yizkor and Kel Maleh Rachamim, along with Psalms and Mishnayot in their memory.

Before the entering of Shabbat, the rabbis enjoyed a scenic cruise on the Yenisei River, exchanging insights and experiences from their diverse communities and initiatives aimed at strengthening Jewish life across the region.

The Shabbat itself was filled with spirited prayer, shared meals, and heartfelt Chassidic gatherings. The Unity Shabbat concluded with a festive Melaveh Malka that also celebrated an engagement between two descendants of participating rabbis: Shneur Zalman, son of Rabbi Goel Meyers of Orenburg, and Chaya Mushka, daughter of the host, Rabbi Binyamin Wagner of Krasnoyarsk.
