How Ukraine’s Jews Will Celebrate Sukkot Despite the Challenges

Led by JRNU, the executive arm of Chabad and the Federation of Jewish Communities (FJC) in Ukraine, and thanks to the efforts of Rabbi Nachum Ehrentrau, a complex logistical operation has been successfully completed. Hundreds of sets of the Four Species, essential for the Sukkot holiday, have arrived in Ukraine directly from Israel, overcoming the ongoing aviation challenges between the two countries due to the tense situation.

The arrival of the Four Species to Jewish communities across Ukraine in time for Sukkot was uncertain this year. However, after significant efforts, representatives from Chabad and the Jewish communities succeeded in importing hundreds of etrogs, lulavs, hadassim, and aravot from Israel. These were safely transported through several countries and successfully delivered to even the smallest and most remote Jewish communities, as well as those in high-risk areas, ensuring timely distribution ahead of the holiday.

“The Four Species symbolize the unity of all types of Jews,” stated JRNU. “This underscores the great importance of ensuring that, even in Ukraine’s current situation, Jews can joyfully celebrate the holiday and bless the Four Species with hope and faith that better and happier days are ahead, and that they are an integral part of the Jewish people, wherever they are.”
