YEKA Girls Jewish Summer Camp Brings 120 Girls Together as “One Family”

For 14 unforgettable days, 120 campers and staff members from more than 12 cities across Ukraine gathered in Tyudiv, in the Carpathian Mountains, for YEKA Girls Jewish Summer Camp 2026. Surrounded by the region’s natural beauty, the girls enjoyed a summer of Jewish learning, friendship, creativity and adventure, all centered on this year’s theme: “Always Connected.”

Throughout the program, campers explored the idea that they are never alone. Daily lessons, discussions and hands-on activities emphasized their connection to the Creator as a source of strength, to the Jewish people wherever they may live, and to one another as members of the wider YEKA family.

Through crafts, games, scrapbooking, journaling and group conversations, the girls reflected on how these connections can remain strong and vibrant even after they return to their homes in cities across the country.

“One of the camp’s most meaningful moments came when 10 girls received their Jewish names for the first time,” said camp director Menucha Beila Hanoka. “Their new names soon became part of everyday camp life, as the girls proudly introduced themselves by them and heard counselors and friends use them with affection.”

The camp’s Chidon learning program also exceeded expectations. Many campers chose to continue studying during their free time, working independently, completing tests and earning prizes. The program concluded with an energetic championship game show that celebrated their accomplishments. As their Jewish knowledge grew, so did their confidence. Counselors frequently found campers staying after lessons to ask thoughtful questions and learn “just one more thing.”

“Our camp goes far beyond providing a positive summer experience,” Hanoka added. “Our dedicated counselors, who volunteer from around the world and raise funds to help make the camp possible, work to ensure that every girl feels uplifted and motivated, gains self-confidence, develops a positive outlook on life and finds the strength to become the wonderful person she truly is.”

That growth was visible throughout camp. Girls who had previously been hesitant to participate began leading songs, joining prayers, assisting younger campers and expressing their Jewish identity with growing pride.

The two-week program also included a full schedule of recreational and creative activities. Campers rafted on Carpathian rivers, took part in mountain jeep excursions, joined a colorful Color Run and enjoyed a lively Foam Party. A talent show gave every girl an opportunity to shine, while electives, baking workshops, swimming, sports, music and dancing filled the days with energy and laughter.

“YEKA doesn’t feel like camp. It feels like family,” campers often said. For children whose lives have been shaped by prolonged uncertainty and disruption, that sense of stability and belonging carries particular meaning.

As the camp came to a close, the girls returned home with new friendships, greater confidence and a strengthened sense of connection—to the Creator, to the Jewish people and to one another.

The 2026 YEKA Girls Jewish Summer Camp was made possible through the generosity of donors from around the world and the support of Jewish Relief Network Ukraine (JRNU).
