Chanukah in Georgia: Historical events

More than 500 Georgian Jews from around the world attended a Special Chanukah concert that took place in Tbilisi during the second night of Chanukah. Dignitaries and rabbis, the Foreign Minister of Georgia and community members participated in the unique evening.

For the first time in history, a public Menorah lighting was permitted in Georgia. It was lit daily by the rabbis and dignitaries, including the Israeli ambassador to Georgia, Mr. Yuval Focus, and the head of the city council Mr. Zal Samadashwilli.

An additional event for children took place on the fourth night and was attended by hundreds of pupils of the FJC’s ‘Or Avner’ Jewish school and kindergarten in Tbilisi. [nggallery id=165]
