On March 23 in Moscow, Jewish University students delivered a highly successful premiere of their play “The Light That Never Went Out” at the amphitheater of the Azimut City Hotel Olympic. The performance captivated a diverse audience with its powerful storytelling and emotional depth.

The production follows one Jewish family’s journey through the horrors of the Holocaust while maintaining their faith and traditions to the present day. The premiere drew significant interest from various community members, including children and parents, school students, university graduates, representatives from Moscow’s Jewish organizations, and visitors to the capital.

“Transmitting traditions and values is a core mission of the Jewish University,” noted Rabbi Avraham Bekerman, director of the Machon CHAMESH Campus of the Moscow Jewish University. “We take pride in our students not only showing interest in their people’s history but also being willing to reflect on these themes and interpret them creatively, representing Jewish culture on a major stage.”

The performance demonstrates how younger generations within Russia’s Jewish communities are actively engaging with their heritage, ensuring cultural continuity while processing difficult historical events through artistic expression.

The play was directed by Mrs. Ester Malka Ruderman, who invested extraordinary effort in bringing this production to the stage.
