The inhabitants of Lugansk, a city in war-stricken Eastern Ukraine, continue to live in danger and under the threat of violence and hazards. The entire region has not yet recovered from the devastating destruction and the collapse of the economy. Many of the region’s population have dispersed across Ukraine and become refugees, yet thousands have no choice and remain in their homes despite the difficulties.
The FJC in partnership with the Fellowship of Christians and Jews, headed by Rabbi Yechiel Eckstein, have invested numerous funds and efforts since the crisis broke out to assist the Jewish community left behind and the many thousands that have become refugees and resettled in other cities in Ukraine and Russia.
Last week, two hundred of Lugansk’s Jewish children received clothing packages containing new, high quality modern clothing, provided from the Gloria Jeans franchise that also collaborated with the project. Due to the danger, the clothes were delivered to the children that came to the community’s JCC and picked their favorite style and color.
