Ukrainian Jewish Youth Experience Israel Through STARS-Birthright Collaboration as Tension Continues

For the first time since the outbreak of the crisis in Ukraine, a group of 30 young Jewish professionals and students from STARS Ukraine, in partnership with Birthright, embarked on a nine-day journey throughout Israel. Participants enjoyed tours of historical and holy sites, alongside attractions, lectures, and educational sessions.

This unique program for STARS Ukraine students was organized by Sachlav Tourism Company and took place despite the complex challenges arising from the emergency situation in Ukraine. During the nine-day journey, participants toured historical heritage sites and holy places, experiencing Israel in a profound and inspiring way. The tour was accompanied by trained guides, charismatic lecturers, and skilled tour leaders.

Rabbi Pinchas Vishedski, CEO of STARS Ukraine and Rabbi of Kyiv’s KEDEM community, remarked: “The collaboration with Birthright was blessed and led to amazing results. The participants grew, strengthened their connection to Judaism, and made positive decisions to celebrate the upcoming Passover in a much more joyful and kosher way, and to strengthen their personal connection to Jewish life, the people of Israel, and the land of Israel.”

Rabbi Avi Cassel of the STARS world organization added: “We deeply value and encourage the partnership with Birthright in Ukraine and other countries. It’s very moving that despite the fragile situation, we managed to realize this project, and such an impressive group from Ukraine participated in this journey filled with empowering and inspiring content.”

This successful initiative was made possible through the ongoing dedication and collaborative efforts of the STARS world organization led by Rabbi Avi Cassel, JRNU led by Rabbi Shlomo Peles, and YAHAD directed by Rabbi Mendy Wilansky within the framework of the Federation of Jewish Communities (FJC).
