The horrific rapid development of violence on the streets of Ukraine’s cities is threatening to instantly explode into a bitter civil war, placing the lives of innocent civilians and the vulnerable Jewish communities at extremely high risk.
The FJC has instructed its representatives to immediately implement its emergency defense plan, despite the high cost, and has placed skilled armed guards at all of the Jewish Synagogues, community centers, and educational schools and kindergartens in 30 major cities and in more than 65 Jewish institutions that are under immediate threat.
Additional security measures, many of which cannot be revealed, have been activated in the Eastern Ukraine cities that are under constant fire such as Odessa, Mariupol, Kharkov, Lugansk, Donetsk and Kherson, and will be implemented in any city coming under additional threat.
In parallel, the FJC is also assisting those wishing to immigrate to Israel.
The cost of this crucial emergency plan is now approaching $1.5 million. This includes the provision of ongoing surveillance by hundreds of guards and the non-recurring cost of purchasing security equipment such as security cameras, bars and fences, panic buttons, armored doors and walls and intense lighting.
At this time of crisis, we call upon you to help us save lives and protect the Jewish communities. Take part in preventing tragedy by granting the Jews of Ukraine a feeling of safety and protection!
